HB02404: AN ACT CREATING THE NATIONAL FILM ARCHIVE TO BE MANAGED BY THE FILM DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR

This bill proposes the creation of a National Film Archive of the Philippines to be managed and maintained by the Film Development Council.

Many Filipino films from the past have been lost due to a lack of proper archiving. This bill aims to address this by establishing a dedicated archive to recover, restore, and preserve cinematographic films.

The archive would have the power to acquire film prints, conduct archival research, and provide access to the archive for scholarly purposes. It would also be responsible for promoting appreciation of Filipino films and providing training on film archive management.

The creation of the National Film Archive aligns with the constitutional mandate to protect the nation's artistic and historic wealth. It would contribute to the conservation and promotion of Filipino cinematic heritage for present and future generations.
