This bill establishes a College of Medicine within the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Main Campus in Lucban, Quezon, to be known as the "Southern Luzon State University-College of Medicine". The College will primarily offer a Doctor of Medicine Program, including an Integrated Liberal Arts and Medicine (INTARMED) Program, focused on developing professional physicians to strengthen the country's healthcare system and address the human resource needs of Quezon Province and Region IV-A. It also mandates research and extension services, and provides for scholarships and affirmative action programs for deserving students.
The significance of this bill for the Filipino people is substantial, particularly for residents of Quezon Province and Region IV-A. By establishing a local medical school, it addresses the critical need for more medical professionals in underserved areas, aiming to improve access to healthcare services and strengthen the regional healthcare system. The provision of scholarships and a non-discriminatory admission policy ensures that quality medical education is accessible to a wider range of students, including those from less privileged backgrounds, fostering a more equitable distribution of medical talent and ultimately contributing to better public health outcomes across the region.
