HB07759: AN ACT DECLARING MAY 17 OF EVERY YEAR AS THE NATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, BIPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA AND PHOBIAS FOR PERSONS OF DIVERSE SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER IDENTITY OR EXPRESSION, OR SEX CHARACTERISTICS (SOGIESC)

This bill aims to promote public consciousness about the human rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals and raise awareness about the discrimination they face. This bill, substituted for House Bills Numbered 2167 and 4826, proposes to observe May 17 annually as a national day to recognize and protect the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual or allied persons in the Philippines.

The significance of this bill lies in its potential to foster a more inclusive and tolerant society. By officially recognizing a National Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia, and other SOGIESC-related phobias, the bill seeks to reduce discrimination, oppression, and intolerance against LGBTQIA+ persons. It enjoins all government offices, private institutions, schools, colleges, and universities to support activities promoting these human rights, with the Commission on Human Rights and the Philippine Commission on Women leading multi-media information campaigns. This collective effort is crucial for cultivating respect and acknowledging the contributions of SOGIESC persons to society.
