HB09205: AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE AGRICULTURE INFORMATION SYSTEM IN ALL CITIES AND MUNICIPALITIES
This bill mandates all cities and municipalities to establish an Agriculture Information System (AIS), a dynamic online computer database for agricultural and fisheries products. The AIS will collect and upload information on demand and production data from farmers and fisherfolk in every barangay, aiming to facilitate market linkages from farms to local and global markets. It will also include features such as identification of farmers and fisherfolk, crop forecasting, inventory of products, demographics, and a search engine for buyers and sellers. The Department of Agriculture (DA) will integrate this data into existing national information systems and coordinate with other agencies to create market linkages and provide support to farmers.
The significance of this Act for the Filipino people, especially farmers and fisherfolk, is immense. It aims to uplift their socioeconomic conditions by providing them with real-time market information, fostering direct linkages with buyers, and ensuring appropriate returns on their investments. The system's ability to monitor production, manage farm inputs, and track assistance given to LGUs and cooperatives can lead to more efficient agricultural practices, reduced waste, and better support for the agricultural sector. This modernization of agricultural information management is crucial for food security, economic stability in rural areas, and empowering the backbone of the country's food supply.
