RA11982: AN ACT GRANTING BENEFITS TO FILIPINO OCTOGENARIANS AND NONAGENARIANS, AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10868, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE "CENTENARIANS ACT OF 2016", AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR

Republic Act No. 11982, also known as the "Centenarians Act of 2016," expands the benefits for elderly Filipinos by granting cash gifts to octogenarians and nonagenarians, in addition to centenarians. Under this law, Filipinos residing in the Philippines or abroad will receive a cash gift of P10,000 upon reaching the ages of 80, 85, 90, and 95. Centenarians, those reaching 100 years old, will continue to receive a cash gift of P100,000 and a letter of felicitation from the President. These cash gifts can be claimed within one year of reaching the specified ages.

The significance of this law lies in its direct positive impact on the lives of a broader range of elderly Filipinos. By extending benefits to octogenarians and nonagenarians, the government acknowledges and supports more senior citizens, potentially helping them with their daily needs or healthcare expenses. Furthermore, the establishment of an "Elderly Data Management System" by the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) aims to streamline the implementation of these provisions, ensuring that beneficiaries are properly registered and receive their due benefits efficiently. This legislation reflects a commitment to recognizing and valuing the contributions of the elderly population in the Philippines.
