RA11997: AN ACT INSTITUTIONALIZING THE GRANT OF A TEACHING ALLOWANCE FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR

Republic Act No. 11997, also known as the "Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act," institutionalizes the grant of a teaching allowance for public school teachers in the Philippines. This law aims to support teachers by providing financial assistance to cover expenses related to teaching supplies, materials, incidental costs, and the implementation of various learning delivery modalities. For the School Year 2024-2025, teachers will receive Five thousand pesos (P5,000.00), which will increase to Ten thousand pesos (P10,000.00) per teacher for School Year 2025-2026 and subsequent years. This allowance is also exempt from income tax, ensuring that the full amount benefits the teachers.

The significance of this Act lies in its direct impact on improving the quality of education and supporting the welfare of public school teachers. By alleviating the financial burden of purchasing necessary teaching materials and covering incidental expenses, the law empowers teachers to more effectively deliver quality education to students. This initiative recognizes the vital role teachers play in the educational system and the challenges they face, ultimately contributing to a more supportive environment for both educators and learners in the Philippines.
