RA11960: AN ACT INSTITUTIONALIZING THE ONE TOWN, ONE PRODUCT (OTOP) PHILIPPINES PROGRAM, APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Republic Act 11960, also known as the "OTOP Philippines Act," aims to foster inclusive and sustainable economic development by institutionalizing the "One Town, One Product" Philippines Program. This program is designed to stimulate the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in rural areas by promoting the use of indigenous raw materials and local skills. The Act outlines a comprehensive package of assistance for beneficiaries, including product development support in design, packaging, and technology updating, capacity building through business skills training, adherence to standards and market compliance, and support for market access and product promotion.

The significance of this Act for the people lies in its potential to empower local communities and individuals. By providing structured support to MSMEs, it can lead to improved product quality, increased marketability, and better income opportunities for entrepreneurs and artisans. The establishment of the OTOP Philippines Trustmark and OTOP Philippines Hubs will further boost the visibility and credibility of local products, contributing to a stronger national economy controlled by Filipinos and encouraging the preferential use of local labor and goods. This initiative will enable communities to leverage their unique cultural heritage and resources for economic advancement.
