HB07535: AN ACT GRANTING BENEFITS TO FILIPINO OCTOGENARIANS AND NONAGENARIANS, AMENDING FOR THE PURPOSE REPUBLIC ACT NO. 10868, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE "CENTENARIANS ACT OF 2016", AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR

House Bill No. 7535, expands the scope of recognition for elderly Filipinos. This bill amends the existing Centenarians Act of 2016 by not only maintaining the Centenarian Gift of P100,000 and a letter of felicitation from the President for those reaching 100 years old, but also introduces a new provision for octogenarians and nonagenarians. Under the proposed Section 3-A, all Filipinos who reach the ages of eighty (80), eighty-five (85), ninety (90), and ninety-five (95) years old will now receive a letter of felicitation from the President and a cash gift of P25,000 each. The funding for this expanded program will be included in the annual General Appropriations Act, and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) will be primarily responsible for its implementation, in consultation with other relevant government agencies.

The impact and significance of this bill on the Filipino people are substantial, particularly for the elderly and their families. By extending benefits and recognition to octogenarians and nonagenarians, the bill acknowledges and celebrates the lives of a broader segment of the senior population, not just centenarians. This can provide much-needed financial assistance, albeit modest, and a sense of dignity and appreciation for their contributions to society. The official recognition from the President, along with a cash gift, serves as a tangible expression of gratitude from the nation. This expanded support system aims to improve the quality of life for more elderly Filipinos, promoting their well-being and acknowledging their longevity and wisdom, thereby reinforcing a culture of respect and care for the elderly within Filipino society.
