RA11168: AN ACT ALLOWING HOME ECONOMICS GRADUATES TO TEACH HOME ECONOMICS SUBJECTS AND HOME ECONOMICS-RELATED TECHNICAL-VOCATIONAL SUBJECTS IN ALL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, RESPECTIVELY, CONSISTENT WITH SECTION 8 OF REPU

Republic Act (RA) 11168, enacted on January 3, 2019, allows Home Economics graduates to teach Home Economics and Home Economics-related technical-vocational subjects in all public and private elementary and secondary schools, respectively. This Act recognizes the valuable contribution that Home Economics graduates can make to the education sector and aims to address the shortage of licensed teachers in this field.

Other Key Provisions

Joint Formulation of Standards: The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Civil Service Commission (CSC), in consultation with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), are tasked with formulating the standards and guidelines for assessing the qualifications of Home Economics graduates.

National Certificate Requirement: Home Economics graduates must obtain a National Certificate Level 1 (NC1) and National Certificate Level 2 (NC2) from TESDA to teach technical-vocational subjects in secondary schools.

Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) Requirement: Home Economics graduates are required to take the LET within five (5) years from the date of hiring. Part-time teachers are not required to take the LET.

Representation in the Teacher Education Council: The Home Economics profession will be represented in the Teacher Education Council (TEC).
