HB11217: AN ACT REORGANIZING THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR CHILDREN´S TELEVISION AS THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR CHILDREN´S MEDIA, STRENGTHENING FOR THE PURPOSE ITS POWERS AND FUNCTIONS AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR
This bill proposes to reorganize the National Council for Children's Television (NCCT) into the National Council for Children's Media (NCCM), significantly broadening its scope to include all forms of media accessible to children, such as digital streaming platforms, games, and applications, in addition to traditional television. The aim is to ensure that all media content for children is age-appropriate, educational, safe, and supportive of their holistic development, recognizing the growing trend of Filipino children engaging with diverse digital platforms.
The "Children's Media Act" holds immense significance for Filipino children and their families by creating a safer and more enriching media environment. It mandates content monitoring, evaluation, and the formulation of standards to protect children from harmful or inappropriate material, while also promoting the production of high-quality, culturally relevant content. This comprehensive approach will empower children to navigate the digital landscape responsibly, foster their positive development, and provide parents and educators with better tools and resources to guide children's media consumption, ultimately contributing to a more informed and well-rounded generation.
