HR01534: A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE PROFOUND CONDOLENCES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON THE PASSING OF FU YABING MASALON DULO, KNOWN AS “FILIPINO TEXTILE MASTER WEAVER AND DYER”, A TEACHER AND CULTURAL BEARER OF BLAAN INDIGENOUS PEOPLE
This resolution expresses the profound condolences of the House of Representatives on the passing of Fu Yabing Masalon Dulo, renowned as the "Filipino Textile Master Weaver and Dyer" and a cultural bearer of the Blaan Indigenous People. Fu Yabing, who passed away at the age of 106, dedicated her life to preserving the Blaan traditional mabal tabih art of dyeing and weaving, having created masterpieces displayed at the National Museum and teaching the craft to her daughter and community.
Her contributions to Philippine arts and culture were officially recognized in 2016 when she was conferred the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) or National Living Treasure Award by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The resolution acknowledges her role as a cultural master and partner in cultural preservation, emphasizing that her traditional artworks reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. Her passing is a significant loss, but her legacy as a teacher and cultural icon will continue to inspire and preserve the Blaan weaving tradition.
